2007 NAQT Qualifier (14 Apr 07 @ St. Joseph's)

Harrison Crushes the Competition

Lafayette Harrison took the 2007 NAQT Qualifier in decisive fashion, by not dropping a single game along the way and by racking up some impressive scores.

In the morning preliminary rounds, Harrison averaged 377 points per game and crossed the 400-point threshold three times. Their most impressive game probably was holding St. Joseph's 2 to only 20 points. The latter team was good enough, though, to claim the other playoff spot for the afternoon.

In the other "house", Culver Academies 1 and St. Joseph's 1 were the top dogs. Their own match was very tight in the first half until the Eagles broke it open in the second half to garner their highest winning score.

In the afternoon playoffs, Harrison dispensed of St. Joseph's 1 and Culver dispensed of St. Joseph's 2 to set up a final between two undefeated teams. But the final was all Harrison, as they powered on 20% of the tossups in the final and converted points on bonus after bonus to steadily build the lead.

Harrison has now won three Indiana tournaments in a row (Culver Invitational, State Championship, and NAQT Qualifier). In fact, only an untimely loss to Hamilton Southeastern in the Cardinal Quiz Bowl playoffs kept the streak from reaching five, as they had won the Dogfight as well. Congratulations!
